Historical Note1

The Women's Scholarship Association, Boston, MA

The Women's Scholarship Association was founded in 1907 with the mission to "further higher education among women in general and among Jewish young women in particular by granting them scholarships and loans for study toward a degree at accredited schools and colleges." On January 18, 1919, the Women's Scholarship Association received its charter from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The association granted scholarships and loans to women attending colleges and universities in Massachusetts as well as administered scholarships to Hebrew University in Jerusalem. The association dissolved in 1993.

This series contains ledgers recording membership dues and scholarship name funds. It also contains annual financial statements, treasurers' notes, invoices, and treasurers' reports. One ledger is a fragile, bound book containing a record of disbursements and receipts.
