Jews in Switzerland Collection

The archival materials in this collection include a photostat copy of 1825 rules for the management of the Jewish community of Oberendingen; photocopies of 1943 correspondence about clandestine attempts to smuggle Jewish children into Switzerland from France; clippings and typescripts about Swiss police chief Paul Grueninger, who helped Jewish refugees enter Switzerland during World War Two; correspondence and typescript articles about Swiss immigration policy since 1933; a membership booklet for the Jüdischer Gesangverein "Hasomir" Zürich; the 2001 Official Notification by the World Jewish Congress: List of Known Swiss Bank Accounts; a photograph of a menorah; and two receipts.

Clippings in this collection are copies and originals of articles from American and Swiss newspapers about Swiss Jews; also found are pamphlets about Hebrew printing in Basel, the Jüdisches Lehrhaus Zurich, and the Jewish Museum of Switzerland in Basel. Genealogical materials include newsletters, bulletins, and correspondence from Swiss genealogical organizations, as well as a photocopy of an 1894 family tree for the Diedesheim family, originating in Allschwil, near Basel, and descended from Bernard Diedesheim (Berle Diedesheim).
