Biographical Note

Harry Sabee Linfield (1889-1978), rabbi and statistician, from 1921 served as the Director of Information and Statistics of the Bureau of Jewish Social Research, originally a division of the American Jewish Committee, followed by the Synagogue Council of America and the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds. He also served as ‘special agent’ for Jewish data for the United States Bureau of the Census in the Decennial Censuses of Religious Bodies in 1926, 1936 and 1946. His Jewish Statistical Bureau conducted other research on Jews in America and published numerous reports and other publications on their findings, specifically the Statistics of Jews.
