Historical Note

The Israel Numismatic Society of Massachusetts (INSM) was founded in 1969. Irving Rudin was the founding president through 1971. He was proceeded by Ed Shade in 1972, Roslyn Kramer in 1974, Ed Katz in 1976, Joe Egel in 1978, and Nate Tucker in 1980. The INSM was a branch of the American Numismatic Association (ANA), a Colorado Springs, Colorado organization founded in 1891 by Dr. George F. Heath to advance the knowledge of numismatics—the study or collection of currency—along educational, historical, and scientific lines, as well as to enhance interest in the hobby.

The INSM was also affiliated with The American Israel Numismatic Association (AINA). AINA is a non-sectarian cultural and educational organization dedicated to the study and collection of Israel's coinage, past and present, and all aspects of Judaic numismatics. The primary purpose is the development of publications, programs, meetings and other activities which will bring news, history, social and related background to the study and collection of Judaic and Israel numismatics and the advancement of the hobby.
