Biographical Note

Adams was born on April 21, 1842 to Ira and Mary Elizabeth (Senter) Adams in Dorchester, Massachusetts. A businessman by trade, Adams is also known for his dialectic poems, including “Leedle Yawcob Strauss” (1876), for which he is most well known. Married in 1870 to Hattie Louise Mills, they had two children, Charles Mills and Ella Paige Adams (married name: Sawyer.)

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains a handwritten excerpt from American poet Charles Follen Adams’s, “Leedle Yawcob Strauss” dated “Boston. Mass. Nov. 16/82.” A reprint of a photogravure of Adams, which is signed by him, is also included.
