Biographical Note
The Goldie Seiden Chirlin Photograph Collection provides a view of American-Jewish Society in mid-20th century Albany, New York. The collection encompasses photographs primarily taken by Goldie Seiden Chirlin of her friends, family, and local Jewish Community. Goldie Seiden Chirlin was born in Albany, New York in 1914 to Fishel (c.1879-1933) and Sara Seiden (c. 1890-1977), Hungarian and Russian immigrants respectively. With the exception of one year when the Seiden’s lived in Los Angeles, California, the Seiden Family remained residents of Albany, New York throughout their lives. Goldie Seiden Chirlin was active in the Albany Jewish Community as both a Girl Scout leader and a Jewish Community Center counselor. She was married to Max Chirlin of Albany in 1940.
The Goldie Seiden Chirlin Photograph Collection includes black and white photographs, primarily taken by Goldie Seiden Chirlin, of her friends, family, and local Jewish Community during social gatherings, birthdays, and holidays in Albany, New York and surrounding areas. Accompanying the collection is a key, recorded by the collection donor, Diane Levine. The key contains biographical commentary by Goldie Seiden Chirlin of the individuals and places represented in the photographs.
