Broh Family Collection
Scope and Content Note
This collection contains photographs, correspondence and personal papers of members of the Broh Family. Series III contains snapshots of extended family members and many travel photographs. Some of these are landscape photographs. Personal correspondence among family members addresses the impact of the Germany’s National Socialist government and World War II on the extended family. Series IV contains correspondence among business associates and family members that was maintained for as many as three decades.

Biographical Note
Dagobert Broh was born in Berlin, Germany on July 20, 1904. The following year, on October 7, 1905, his brother Manfred was born. Their parents, Georg Broh and Betty Broh née Lippmann, married in Berlin, Germany in 1902. Dagobert Broh immigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1937, following his brother Manfred, who had arrived there earlier in the decade. Dagobert had a career in the textile import/export business. After his retirement, he studied at Concordia University, earned a bachelor’s degree and eventually earned a Ph.D. in History in 1996, at the age of 92. Broh’s dissertation, “The History of the Newspaper Aufbau, 1934-1948”, examines the publication’s significance within the culture of German-speaking Jewish immigrants in the United States.
