Scope and Content Note

The collection includes various types of documents, a large amount of photographs, and some correspondence.

Documents include educational, immigration, vital, and professional documents and certificates and consist of student IDs, Affidavit of Identity and Nationality, professional certificates, letters regarding decorations, passports, birth certificates, drivers license, certificates of examinations, diplomas, and professional certificates attesting professional qualifications. All of the documents are issued either by the Austrian or United States’ authorities.

Photographs include family photographs, and photographs taken during Edith and Arthur Weisz's travels.

Other materials include a cook book of traditional Austrian cookery and a small amount of correspondence with friends.

Biographical Note

Edith Broch-Weisz was born on December 22, 1911 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary, (now Austria) into a wealthy family. Her father, Philipp Broch was a well known banker in Vienna.

She attended Medical School at the University of Vienna.

She and her husband, Arthur Weisz, left Austria in early March of 1938. The couple then settled in New York
