Scope and Content Note

The collection contains documentation of the Hanna Oppenheimer family, including business documents, family documents, diaries, and family trees.

Folder 1 contains business documents of the Oppenheimer and Morgenstern families, including a day book with entries dated from October 26, 1867, to February 16, 1868; and business contracts, including purchase agreements.

Folder 2 contains documents pertaining to Luise Morgenstern and her father Friedrich Morgenstern, including inventories of the assets of Friedrich Morgenstern and his wife Franziska Morgenstern née Stern; lawyer's statement regarding Friedrich Morgenstern's tax assessment; letter of recommendation for Luise Morgenstern; and document detailing burial expenses for Friedrich Morgenstern.

Folder 3 contains a diary for Hanna Oppenheimer, which was kept by her mother Luise Oppenheimer née Morgenstern. The diary documents Hanna's life from birth to the age of four. The diary also contains notes on close family members, including birth, marriage, and death dates, locations, and occupational information; and a family tree from the late 17th century to 1935, with birth and death dates.

Folder 4 contains a family tree of the Stern family of Steinach an der Saale; family tree of the Stern family of Steinach an der Saale and Ney family of Bamberg; family tree of the Oppenheimer family of Niedermarsberg in Westphalia; and hand drawn map of a section of the city of Fürth.

Folder 5 contains the morning edition of the Berliner Tageblatt dated March 13, 1888, with a proclamation of German Emperor Friedrich III on the occasion of his accession to the throne.

Biographical Note

Hanna Oppenheimer was born in 1935 in Düsseldorf to Walter Oppenheimer and Luise Oppenheimer née Morgenstern. She immigrated to England in 1939 and the United States in 1940.
