Albert Dann Family Collection

This collection contains a wide variety of materials concerning Albert Dann, his ancestors, and children. Included are genealogical materials, correspondence, official, business, and restitution documents, and biographical information.

The bulk of folder one is from the 19th century and includes the testament of Nathan Abraham Oberndörfer, a drawing (xerox) of Abraham L. Stein (1756-1846, rabbi of Burgpreppach and Adelsdorf), marriage contract of Samuel Beer Dann and Sophie Gundersheim, and an original printed advertisement of Samuel Beer Dann's Frankfurt business (1834). Folder 2 contains pre-WWII business and official documents of Albert Dann, including documents relating to WWI, certificates, the accounting book for the Heymann company (his company as of 1905), and records of anti-Semitic measures taken against him in the 1930s.

Correspondence between Dann and the leaders of the Augsburg Jewish community concerning restitution may be found in folder 3, including details concerning the property of the community which was confiscated and/or damaged and destroyed during WWII. Folder 4 is made up of various correspondence to and from members of the Dann family. Of interest is a letter from Martin Buber to Albert Dann (1953), a letter from Baroness Theresa von Rothschild to Thea Dann on the occasion of the latter's engagement (1899), and post-war correspondence between Albert Dann and Lutheran pastor Hermann Maas.

Folder 5 is composed of biographical information regarding Albert, Sophie, and Gertrug Dann, clippings, condolences on the occasion of Albert Dann's death, and 2 publications of Sophie Dann: An Experiment in Group Upbringing by Anna Freud and Sophie Dann ( New York: International Universities Press, 1951 ) and Beobachtungen an Kleinkindern bei der Anpassung an eine neue Sprache by Sophie Dann ( München: Ernst Reinhardt Verlag, 1960 ).
