 Collection
Identifier: AR 151

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains manuscripts on the history of the Gleiwitz community, with an emphasis on the period from 1933-1945, as well as some original programs and correspondence related to the local Bne Briss (B'nai Brith) lodge and deportation lists.

Folder one contains Erich Schlesinger's manuscript Geschichte der jüdischen Gemeinde Gleiwitz vom 31.1.1933-21.1.1945, as well as some related materials and drafts. Other materials on the history on the community can be found in folder 2 and 4, in particular short manuscripts on the broader history and especially on the demographics of the community since its beginnings in the 17th century. These latter manuscripts were compiled by Wilhelm and Ernst Lustig. Deportation lists are housed in the final folder.

Primary source materials in this collection consist of some programs and announcements from the Bne Briss lodge in Gleiwitz, located in the second folder. Folder 3 contains Red Cross letters regarding the fate of Lisa Froehlich, who was deported to Auschwitz in 1942.
