Rosenfeld Family

The Rosenfeld Family Collection documents several generations of the family, their marriages, educations and professions. Included are numerous official documents of family members, including those from religious authorities as well as government offices, academic and professional institutions and the military. A smaller amount of compositions created by family members, including letters, a few essays and notes are also present, along with some material collected by family members. In addition, there are some family trees and genealogical material on the family.

The first series of the collection holds the papers of four members of the Rosenfeld family, beginning with the cantor Callmann Isaac Rosenfeld and continuing with three of his descendants, Leopold, Gustav and Fritz Rosenfeld. There is some biographical data on Callmann Isaac Rosenfeld in this series, but the bulk of the series consists of the official records and certificates of the above-named individuals, including civil, academic, professional and military documents.

Series II and III contain papers of the Rosenthal and Lublinski families, related to the Rosenfelds via Sophie Rosenthal and Toni Lublinski, who married Gustav and Fritz Rosenfeld, respectively. Many of the papers in these series belong to the women's parents and much of these are also official documents that document the Rosenthal and Lublinski family members' education, profession or marriage.

The final series of the collection holds papers of general interest, such as the family's genealogical material as well as one folder of papers that largely consist of unidentified origin. Among such papers are several notes, some documents in Hebrew, and a few letters to unknown individuals. Included in this series is a statement by Field Marshal Erwin Rommel's son Manfred Rommel about his father's death and a drawing of a courtyard. The genealogical material consists of several family trees; these display the connecting branches of the Rosenfelds, Rosenthals, and Lublinskis and also include brief narratives on some family members.
