Jakob Schönberg Collection

 Collection
Identifier: AR 3390

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains a short autobiographical manuscript and 3 other short manuscripts on music, two of which specifically address Jewish music and its history. Accompanying these manuscripts are lists of Schönberg's compositions and publications, as well as a few items of correspondence.

The bulk of the collection is taken up by two scrapbooks. The first scrapbook contains several programs for concerts in which Schönberg performed, mostly in Germany during the 1920s and 1930s. Several of the concert programs from the 1930s bear the sponsorship of the Jüdischer Kulturbund, and there are also a few programs from Holland, England, and the United States during the 1940s. This first scrapbook also holds several reviews of Schönberg's performances and works. The second scrapbook consists exclusively of short articles published by Schönberg in German-language periodical. These articles span a wide range of formats, from concert and radio reviews to historical and theoretical essays.
