Scope and Content Note

This collection contains family and personal correspondence, including letters from the historian Heinrich Graetz and other intellectuals. There is also an obituary for Malachowski, as well as some family poems. Finally, a photocopied diary of Rose Malachowski née Kristeller documents the experiences of her upper middle class, assimilated family in Berlin from 1908-1941.

Biographical Note

Abraham Malachowski, born in Strzelno, Posen in 1811, and died in Berlin in 1895, was the director of the Jewish Orphanage in Berlin from 1872-1895.

Rose Malachowski, née Kristeller, was born in 1875 in Berlin, and committed suicide in Berlin in 1941.
