Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of photocopies of memos and reports of the German occupying forces in France concerning deportations and other measures against Jews living in France. The documents were compiled by the Centre de Documentation Juive Contemporain and sent to the American Joint Distribution Committee.

The documents are presented in folders and binders, with French summaries preceding the reproductions of the German originals. At the beginning of each binder is a name index, and the first binder is preceded by an introductory letter. The bulk of the contents consist of various internal memos, reports and communiques regarding plans to deport the Jews in France to Auschwitz and eastern concentration camps. There are also reports on the state of the internment camps in southern France, and communiques regarding plans for the mass arrest action against Jews living in Paris in 1942.
