Scope and Content Note

This collection contains a manuscript by Kallmann containing his memoirs of the Hohenzollern Preparatory School in Berlin, as well as some issues of Kallmann's Ex-Internees Newsletter, aimed at former refugees interned on the British ship Dunera.

The bulk of the manuscript offers profiles of individual faculty members based on Kallmann's recollections for the years 1932-1938. Subjects taught, biographical details, anecdotes, and political orientation are discussed for each faculty member. The manuscript also discusses at length events at the beginning of the school year 1937. The Ex-Internees Newsletter offers general news, updates on individuals and their accomplishments, information on publications about the Dunera episode, and photographs and artworks related to the Dunera episode. Finally, the collection also contains a list of German and Austrian Jewish individuals mentioned in Kallmann's publication Encyclopedia of Music in Canada .
