Historical Note
Early members in front of building

Members in front of building

The Jewish Center of Bayside Hills was founded in 1952 by young couples settling in the area after WWII. They rented a small storefront on Forty-Eighth Avenue in Bayside Queens, New York. A year later they bought the land and in 1953 expanded to double in size. By 1957 an auditorium was added to the building.

The center included a Hebrew school, a sisterhood and a men’s club. The center was formally affiliated with the U.S. Synagogue of Conservative Judaism in 1962. In 2005, with only 75 members left, they combined with the Jewish Center of Bayside Oaks to become the Jewish Center of Oak Hills.
